[EF#17 Weekly Challenge] From Accounting to Programming

Choice. In every footstep, in every sigh, at every blink of the eye, in every episode of life, there is always a choice.

There are times when choices are taken for small things, so everyone can decide easily and quickly. In that case, a person did not feel that he has set an option. Sometimes, choices are taken for big things, so everyone must decide carefully and need a long time to do it.

Here is my story about a choice I took.

In the past, in my childhood, there are three professions that very popular in my hometown, teachers, doctors, and engineers. When someone asked me at that time about goals in the future, then my answer is one of them.

To day, is my work or my current profession is one of the three professions? The answer is no. My profession is not one of them. I am not a teacher. I am not a doctor. I am not an engineer. But if I think deeply, some times my current work do what a teacher, doctor, and engineer do.

How come? Here’s the answer.

In high school, I prefer make IPS as my choice than IPA. I did that because I was not good in physics, chemistry, and biology. So, did I choose IPS because I was good in accounting? No. In high school, I did not understand about accounting.

After high school graduation, I studied in STAN. Alhamdulillah, in STAN, I can understand about accounting better than in high school.

After STAN graduation, I got a placement at a tax office. Because I just studied a little bit about taxes, I have to follow a basic education and training of taxation for approximately three months and an internship at the tax office for other three months.

A few years later, there was a change in my job career. Starting from a friend in the same room that tells me about a programmer recruitment. After learned the terms and conditions, I decided to follow the recruitment. Finally, I passed the recruitment’s examination. And then I work as a Pranata Komputer or programmer. Until to day.

I there a connection between my job today with the three professions that I mentioned at the beginning?

Teacher, in my opinion, is a profession that gives lessons or teach at school or in college. After I work as programmer, I got a job to give lessons about information system in training activities or at a campus. In that time I work as a teacher.

Doctor, I think, is a profession that provides services in health, disease, and treatment. A doctor will examine someone sick men then give antidote or cure. As a programmer, I was doing a similar thing like researching diseases, investigate the cause, and do a ‘healing’. The object is not a human, but an application or program. When a user got a problem with an application like cannot input data, I will examine the applications and the data to find the problem. When I found the problem, I repaired application or data to be processed further by the user. Is that similar to the work of doctor?

Engineer, in my opinion, is a man who make buildings, bridges, and roads. My job as a programmer also has something to make like an engineer make a building. But the object is an application or program, not a building.

Working as a programmer is my choice. I am proud of it and I love it.

Speaking about doctor, I also think that my job as a paralegal paralleled with the doctor, because we cure law problems, too :haha.
We can always see a job in many ways, I agree. The only thing is that we have to love our job and do it gratefully :)).
Er, if my computer here has a problem, could I ask you for the treatment, Mr. Programmer? :hehe.
